Competence Framework Review 2025: How the ADIA is Shaping Industry Standards

At the Automatic Door Installation Association (ADIA), we ensure that engineers working with doors, gates, and shutters have access to the highest-quality training and development opportunities. That’s why we are proud to have played a key role in the Competence Framework Review 2025.

This review, led by CITB (Construction Industry Training Board), is designed to ensure that the pathways to competence in our industry reflect the skills, knowledge, and expertise required to uphold safety and professional standards. As part of this, ADIA has worked closely with the review process to ensure that our accredited training courses are featured across all key pathways.

How ADIA Training is Embedded in the Framework

The newly drafted routes to competence for the industry include:

  1. Automated Gate System Installer and Service Technician

  2. Powered Pedestrian Door Installer and Service Technician

  3. Shutter and Roller Door Installer and Service Technician

Within each of these documents, ADIA’s BS EN16005 accredited training courses and other qualifications are included as key components in building and maintaining competence. This means that ADIA members who undergo our training are not only meeting current industry standards but are also aligned with the future direction of competence requirements.

The SKEB Statement & Why Your Feedback Matters

Alongside the routes to competence, CITB has also released a Skills, Knowledge, Experience, and Behaviours (SKEB) Statement, which outlines the critical competencies needed for each role.

Since ADIA’s training courses are featured within this framework, we want to ensure they are as relevant and beneficial as possible for our members. That’s why we are encouraging all industry professionals—especially ADIA members—to review the documents and provide feedback.

How to Have Your Say

Your feedback is crucial in ensuring that these competence pathways accurately represent the needs of the industry. By reviewing the documents and sharing your thoughts, you can help shape the future of training and qualifications in our sector.
